KEEPING THE MUSIC ALIVE.

WHEN DID THE MUSIC STOP

Marion and I were sitting in a restaurant recently enjoying a night out together.

Everything was perfect. Diners around us were engaged in deep and meaningful discussions, the swirl of waiters and the clink of cutlery just added to the sense of completeness.

Then I noticed it. Something was missing. The music had stopped. Not that I has been overly aware of the background music, but now that it had stopped it seemed as though one of the main ingredients had been stolen from our pleasurable moments together.

I got to thinking later about how easy it is to let the music stop in your life and not really notice it.

The music in my life is made up of the little things that happen almost imperceptibly, like the sounds of family, home and happiness that often are overlooked.

Sounds like our kids having a scuffle on their exit to school.

Sounds like the dog barking ferociously at a rock on the back lawn.

Sounds like the snoring of a hard working partner keeping you awake at night.

Sounds like the smashing of a favourite piece of china by one of your children.

Sounds like teenagers asking for more of everything.

You know when the music has stopped when these everyday sounds of life and family become an irritation to you, and instead of smiling and saying,
